Reinterpretation of hand tools

Will hand tools disappear or be redefined; offering new and different user experiences?

Hand tools propel our imagination into physical outcomes. From primitive age to modern society, the evolution of hand tools has represented the transformation of human desires. That is to say, hand tools are the key to understanding human evolution. When people pursue high quality commodities and are willing to spend lots of money on what is called “perfection” today, how many people acknowledge the actual manufacturing process uses mass production from machine or craftsmanship from low-tech hand tools? If hand tools were replaced by machines someday because the finishing did not fulfill expectations anymore, what would the next generation of hand tools be? Will they disappear or be given different purposes? As a designer, I want to rethink different body movements in hand tool operations, taking them out of the hand, using different parts of the body according to the operation being performed.

With commodities today being immersed and driven by the idea of mass production and precision, more and more hand tools are being replaced by machines, computers, and robots. What is the new definition of hand tool in coming generations? I'm rethinking different body movements in hand tool operations which can achieve the same tasks as current conventional hand tools, taking them out of the hand, using different parts of the body according to the operation being performed.

TOOL THAT STABILIZE

This tool can be set in the armpit. With the natural gripping force between torso and arm, it provides enough grip to hold objects that in the working process. Users can work in different postures to decrease muscle fatigue, on the other hand, increase their working duration.

TOOL THAT DEVIDES

This is a  tool that uses forearm operation to cut out a tapered shape. By using the elbow to press down the pad, the pivot extrudes. Grasping the handle in front of the device,  then use the forearm to rotate the entire object.

TOOL THAT TRANSPORTS

This is a tool which allows the use of bodyweight as a lifting force. When utilizing this force on this device, users can move the goods in a unique traveling pattern. Without bending back while using this tool, the user can prevent potential injures.
