Texture  Exploration

This project is about exploring the fundamental appearance and physical properties of materials, and creating opportunities of innovative texture. In order to achieve the final appearance that can be controlled with quantitative factors, I eliminate the unwanted variables and push the materials to the next level through continuous testing and analysis.

This texture exploration  focuses on combining cement and aluminum foil. Cement is known for its excellent shaping ability, reliable weather durability and easy access. By redesigning a simpler mold, I’m able to establish a metal-like reflective appearance  yet maintain the advantages of cement. With this on-going experiement, I continue to study how many controllable factors can affect the final appearance.

The formation of foil layers control the contact strength

The ratio of concrete (Viscosity) effects various glossiness

The curing time manipulates different colors base on metal properties
